WORLD PLUMBING DAY
March 11th 2016
On March 11th each year World Plumbing Day aims to highlight the position the plumbing industry has worldwide in protecting both people’s health and the environment.
Globally, 650 million people live without access to safe water, this equates to 1 in 10 of the world’s population. The World Plumbing Council estimates that approximately 3.1 million people die every year from preventable diseases related to water and sanitation.
The role the plumbing industry has in these areas of the world is clear as well as reducing water wastage and energy consumption.
Water is a resource that is under pressure for example, in the UK the average person uses 150 litres of water a day. The use of products such as rainwater harvesting or grey water systems in homes and businesses can help make better use of the water available and reduce the requirement for fresh water reserves.
Renewable technologies can also help to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Solar thermal panels can provide up to 65% of a household’s hot water requirement, saving the energy that would otherwise be used to heat the water.
In addition, air and ground source heat pumps are highly efficient and can reduce domestic and commercial energy usage. Heat pumps produce up to 5 units of heat energy for every unit of electricity consumed and are particularly effective when linked to underfloor heating systems.
Professional installers have an important role to play in helping to reduce water wastage. To find out more about the range of products available ask in your local branch or visit: www.grahamplumbersmerchant.com
