GRAHAM ARE SUPPORTING #NOVANBER, ARE YOU?
November 14th 2018
You may have seen the recent twitter campaign #NoVANber and the petition to ask the government to look into what more can be done to tackle van and van tool theft and we wanted to help spread the message.
What’s it all about?
Most of us who work in the plumbing industry, as well as other trades, will have been a victim of van theft or know someone that has been a victim and understand how this impacts the individual and the business.
Even if they are covered by insurance the time taken out to source replacement tools and to repair the damage to their van will lead to lost earnings and they could lose customers by having to cancel jobs.
What can we do right now?
There are ways to try and protect your van like adding van locks, emptying your van every day, keeping it locked away in a garage overnight, park in a well-lit area and having cameras/security lights pointed towards the van. These can often act as a deterrent but don’t always work and can cause the thief to use more force and cause more damage trying to get into the van so more still needs to be done to help protect tradespeople.
What more can be done?
The purpose of the petition is to get the government to look at the issue that is happening every single day and work towards tackling the problem through the introduction of new legislation, additional sentencing guidelines and better regulations on the reselling of tools. The people committing these crimes see it as a way to make money and if this is taken away then they are less likely to commit the offence.
How can you help spread the message?
Firstly, if you think this is a worthwhile cause then sign the petition to help get to the 100,000 signatures required for the government to hear the case in parliament.
Secondly, go to our Twitter page and enter our comment and share competition (T&C’s here) to win a Nest Outdoor Camera and you will be helping us to spread the word about #NoVANber.
What is the competition all about?
We spoke to Nest about the twitter campaign and we both wanted to help spread the message to tradespeople so decided to create a competition to win a product that would help act as a deterrent for van theft. By commenting on and sharing our twitter post you will automatically enter the competition (T&C’s here) to win the prize and you will also be helping us pass on the link to the petition to make more people aware of what is being done. We also have 2 Master Lock Van locks to give away for the second and third name picked.
